Former Heisman Trophy winner and Knicks point guard Charlie Ward said his choice for the Jets in the Draft if they select a QB would be Oklahoma's Baker Mayfield.
Ward, who won the Heisman as QB of Florida State in 1992, told SNY's Michelle Yu that the brash Mayfield has the mentality to play in New York.
"I'm biased, I guess, to Heisman Trophy winners," Ward said. "But also I think Baker Mayfield would be a good fit for being here in New York. Because in order to play here -- playing 9 1/2 seasons with the Knicks -- you definitely have to have a mentality that fits. And he fits. He has the right mentality to be able to play here in New York."
Mayfield is expected to be selected in the first half of the first round along with USC's Sam Darnold, UCLA's Josh Rosen, and Wyoming's Josh Allen.
The 22-year-old Mayfield completed 285 of 404 passes (70.5 percent) for 4,627 yards with 43 touchdowns and six interceptions in 14 games this past season.
