How in Demand is Tom Heckert? -- There's been a report of a mystery team in the running for former Browns and Eagles executive Tom Heckert, but ProFootballTalk has been working overtime to decelerate the spin that Heckert's agent Bob LaMonte has created around that and a few of his other (Andy Reid, Jon Gruden) clients. If Heckert is a candidate, the Jets should get to him in their due time and not be swayed by mystery teams.
Brian Gaine in the Mix? -- Another recent name is Rockland native Brian Gaine. Gaine has learned from the Tuna's time in Miami and works as the Dolphins Assistant GM under Jeff Ireland. Gaine attended Don Bosco, played collegiately at Maine and has been in player personnel for most of his career.
Jim Tomsula Part of the Gamble? -- Jason LaCanfora reported earlier this week that if Gamble goes anywhere, he might bring a familiar face (read the Chargers section) with him; the face and hairy exposed chest belongs of course to Niners defensive line coach Jim Tomsula (above). So now ... let's fit the puzzle pieces together. A rumor is that the Jets top choice is Gamble. Gamble might make a play to bring Tomsula along to join his staff as head coach. Rex Ryan is currently out of the state on a mini-break. As far as we know, there's no interview scheduled with Gamble yet, but you'd have to think that the Jets would at least allow for the Tomsula possibility to get Gamble in the door ...
