It has been a custom for Le'Veon Bell to miss offseason workouts over the past few years in the NFL, and he defended that decision on Monday after a fan asked when he was going to show up to Florham Park.

"I got to stick to the formula that I know works for me to be the best player I can be," Bell responded to the fan on his Instagram. He added "everybody will forget about that once January comes around."

But Bell isn't the only one defending himself. The man that played a vital role in getting him to sign with the Jets in Jamal Adams also came to his side with a comment under that same post, saying "I understand & get it brotha. Do what makes u happy. Ima hold it down."

Bell appreciated the support from his new teammate.

Many believed that Bell would show up this season considering it's a new team he is playing for in 2019, but even new head coach Adam Gase wasn't fazed by his decision to workout on his own time.

"It's voluntary -- that's what it is," Gase said last month. "It's the CBA, it's the rules. He was here that first week and got a lot of good information. The good thing is, having the iPads and things like that helps -- if a guy's not here, he can keep up on what we're doing as far as playbook goes. For him, he has a pretty good training regimen that he goes through."
