FLORHAM PARK, N.J. – Now a Jet, former Rams first round pick Jason Smith won’t admit to any special emotions or feeling this Sunday in St. Louis. Instead, he’s having too much fun in green and white to admit to that.

Smith endured an up and down tenure with the Rams, where four years ago he was a first round pick. Expectations were high, some of which he met and some of which were unfulfilled and led him to becoming a bit of a whipping boy among the Rams fan base. He was traded to the Jets this season in exchange for the much maligned Wayne Hunter and with his new team he’s primarily been used as a jumbo tight end.

There’s no extra feelings for Smith this week leading up to a return to the team that drafted and then three years later traded him.  “I play for the Jets and that’s my life now,” Smith told The Jets Blog.

It’s a new team in St. Louis and his ties seem to be limited with the Rams. With his focus squarely on making an impact in New York, Smith is refusing to look behind or look ahead at what many players would think is a possible statement game against his old team.

His focus is on the team he’s with now and a place that, when talks about it, makes him smile from ear to ear.

“I like everything, I really like being here. I like playing for the Jets. I like the people, the coaches, the organization, the grass is green, the food tastes so good here,” Smith said.

“They take care of us. The facility here came from our owner who wants the best for us. Everything here is about the players. It’s great.”

When asked if he wanted to prove a point on Sunday in the city that marginalized him, Smith just smiled a little.

“I’m happy to be a Jet. I’m more concerned about Austin Howard, Matt Slauson, Nick Mangold, D’Brickashaw Ferguson, Vlad Ducasse, Brandon Moore – all those guys,” Smith said. “That’s who I’m concerned about.”
