Jets linebacker Jordan Jenkins said he feels the team should be embarrassed after Sunday's 45-20 loss to the Oakland Raiders at Oakland Coliseum.
Jenkins said he was upset at the way the Jets lost and how Raiders running back Marshawn Lynch was dancing and celebrating on the sideline after Oakland took a 35-13 lead on Jalen Richard's 52-yard touchdown run.
"I'm an old-school guy," Jenkins said, according to NJ.com's Darryl Slater. "I don't like when things like that happen. That was embarrassing, losing like that, and to have Marshawn dancing like that. Seeing that happen, that should infuriate the whole [Jets] team. It should infuriate everybody. And we should have to have a good response coming into next Sunday."
However, the 23-year-old Jenkins said he didn't have a problem with the fact that Lynch was dancing on the sideline; rather, he was upset at what led to that moment.
"When you perform like that, when you beat a team out like they did us, you've got to celebrate," Jenkins, a third-round pick last season, said. "I mean, it sucks being at the losing end of it, but that's football. That's what comes with it. You've got to take your losses like a man. If guys are just sitting there dancing around, you can get mad. You're supposed to get mad. You don't blame it on unsportsmanlike [conduct]. That's a guy who, he fights. He earned every bit of what he did today. I'm not going to take that away from him. Of course, I'm going to be pissed off at him for dancing like that. But that's sports. That's not unsportsmanlike at all."
Added cornerback Morris Claiborne: "If the scoreboard looked like that on our end, I'd be dancing, too."
While Lynch only ran for 45 of Oakland's 180 rushing yards, the Jets gave up Richard's 52-yard run and a 43-yard touchdown run to Cordarrelle Patterson.
"We just have to stop making idiotic mistakes and stop getting away from our fundamentals," said Jenkins, who recorded two total and three assisted tackles. "We just have to be a smarter defense."
