Sam Darnold suffered another odd health issue, Adam Gase revealed Wednesday morning, but the head coach said that the quarterback "should be good to go" by Sunday afternoon.

Two days after the Jets' 33-0 loss against the New England Patriots on ESPN's Monday Night Football, Gase revealed ahead of Week 8 at the Jacksonville Jaguars that Darnold underwent a procedure to a toenail removed.

Gase added that Darnold would be reevaluated after individual and 7-on-7 action Wednesday afternoon, but the practices before Sunday's 1 p.m. ET kickoff at TIAA Bank Field should get the Jets' signal caller back up to speed.

"It's more of just kind of (precautionary)," Gase said. "He had that procedure the other day, (where) he had a toenail removed and -- I don't know, it was pretty gross, what they were talking about. So he's just limping a little bit, but once we kind of get him in his shoe and the padding and all that kind of stuff, we should be good to go."

The 6-foot-3, 225-pound Darnold's second year as New York's starter has quickly become a roller-coaster ride.

After he debuted in the 2019 season opener, Sept. 8's 17-16 loss to the Buffalo Bills, his four-week bout with mononucleosis and strep throat -- avoiding weight loss by forcing down protein shakes -- sidelined him for three games.

Darnold starred in his return for Oct. 13's 24-22 win over the Dallas Cowboys, but completed 11 of 32 passes (34.4 percent) for 86 yards and threw four interceptions while "seeing ghosts" against the Patriots.

"Learn from it," Gase said. "Learn from it, move on. You've got to clear your mind. You've got to make sure you do a good job of going into this game focused on this game. What happened last week is irrelevant. You have to learn from it, but it's gone. There's nothing we can do about it now."

Gase expressed confidence in Darnold to bounce back from the poor performance, referencing the quarterback's mentality throughout the 48 hours after the humbling outing against the Patriots.

"To me, I see a guy that's focused on this week," Gase said. "I don't see a guy that's thinking about the last game. I think he's dialed in to what we're doing right now."
