The Jets win over the Giants in Week 10 came as a costly one.

Head coach Adam Gase said two starters, tight end Chris Herndon and offensive lineman Brian Winters, both suffered extensive injuries.

Herndon, who was making his season debut, fractured a rib. Winters re-dislocated his shoulder and may need surgery.

On Herndon, Gase said the second-year pro will miss "an extended period of time," adding that it's a break of one of his upper ribs. The coach was more definitive on Winters. His season is likely over.

"It'll be hard for him to get back this season," Gase said in regard to Winters.

Winters, 28, had started each game for the Jets this season. According to Pro Football Focus, Winters was the Jets' best offensive lineman this season. The football analytics outlet graded him at a 63.3 overall mark heading into Sunday's meeting with the Giants, the top-graded Jet in the trenches. Kelvin Beachum's 61.7 overall mark is the next closest PFF grade.

Winter's 63.3 mark was the 28th best of any guard in the NFL this season via PFF's grading system.

Herndon's season had left a lot more to be desired. After a promising rookie season which saw him grab 39 catches for 302 yards and four touchdowns, the 23-year-old made one catch against the Giants on Sunday, which could potentially go down as his only game played in 2019.

After starting the year on a four-game suspension, Herndon sat out another four games due to a hamstring injury.

"For whatever reason, he couldn't catch a break this year," Gase said. "I feel bad for him."
