The Jets added some depth to their linebacker group on Tuesday by claiming James Burgess, the team announced.
Burgess, originally an undrafted free agent out of Louisville, has spent time with five different teams since 2016. Listed at 6-foot, 230 pounds, Burgess appeared in three games with the Browns last season before a hamstring injury ended his season.
The Homestead, Florida native spent two separate stints with the Dolphins in 2016 and 2018, giving him a connection to Jets head coach Adam Gase. He was most recently waived by the Dolphins last Thursday.
To make room on the roster for Burgess, the Jets placed RB Jalin Moore on the Reserve/Non-Football Injury List.
