It appears that Mike Maccagnan and Adam Gase had different views on Le'Veon Bell.

According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Gase didn't like the amount of money Maccagnan gave to the running back, who sat out all of last year. Maccagnan, who was fired on Wednesday, signed the former Steeler to a four-year, $52.5 million deal.

That followed a report from Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News which said Gase didn't want the Jets to sign Bell at all, and didn't want significant money spent on a running back. Rapaport reported that Gase does like Bell as a player.

Bell is not the NFL's highest-paid running back. Todd Gurley is on a four-year, $57.5 million contract with the Rams.

Gase also didn't care for the amount of money spent on linebacker C.J. Mosley, according to Rapoport. Maccagnan signed Mosley to a five-year, $85 million deal, which includes $51 million guaranteed, the largest guarantee ever for an inside linebacker.

With Maccagnan fired, Gase has been named interim general manager. The two had a reported rift which was downplayed by the parties involved. Maccagnan spearheaded the Jets' offseason through free agency and the NFL Draft -- selecting Alabama's Quinnen Williams at No. 3 overall -- before getting let go.
