Jets defensive coordinator Kacy Rodgers will miss Sunday's game against the Broncos due to what head coach Todd Bowles recently called a "serious illness," reports SNY's Ralph Vacchiano. Bowles is expected to call the defensive plays in Rodgers' absence.
The 49-year-old Rodgers could miss several weeks, according to Bowles.
Bowles said Friday that Rodgers was unable to do interviews due to the illness, but did not divulge the type of ailment Rodgers was dealing with.
"Coach Rodgers couldn't do his interviews today because he is ill of a nature we can't discuss right now," Bowles said. "We'll see going forward where he is, and go from there, so he won't be here today and he was not at practice."
The Daily News' Manish Mehta reported on Friday that Rodgers was under a physician's care, and that the belief was that there are no long-term concerns.
Bowles and Rodgers have been coaching together for over a decade, dating back to their time with the Cowboys (2005-07) and Dolphins (2008-11).
