Jets DL Quinnen Williams' court appearance stemming from his arrest at LaGuardia Airport earlier this month for criminal possession of a weapon has been delayed, his attorney told Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News.
The appearance, scheduled for March 25, was pushed back due to New York's coronavirus restrictions.
Williams, 22, was arrested at the Delta check-in counter prior to security at around 9:15 p.m. on March 6 while trying to board a flight. Williams has a permit for the weapon in Alabama.
"We have been in contact with Quinnen Williams and we are fully aware of the situation," the Jets said in a statement at the time. "We will have no additional comment as this is a pending legal matter"
Per ESPN's Rich Cimini, police said Williams was carrying a Glock 19 pistol.
Additionally, although the gun was not loaded, Williams was carrying ammunition, per Port Authority Police. Despite the ammunition not being inside the gun, police said that it still could be deemed "loaded" under New York law, because he possessed both the gun and ammunition at the same time.
Nicole Lynn, Williams' agent, had released a statement from his attorney, Alex Spiro.
"Mr. Williams respects and follows the law," Spiro said in the statement. "There was allegedly a technical issue with the manner in which the lawfully owned firearm was stored - and we expect the matter to be resolved shortly."
A native of Birmingham, Ala., Williams was taken with the third overall pick by the Jets in the 2019 NFL Draft.
He appeared in 13 games with nine starts during his rookie season, totaling 2.5 sacks and one fumble recovery.
