The 2019 Giants season ended up being a start of a rebuild, and as often happens in such cases, the team underwhelmed in the win column. In their own right, the Jets weren't rebuilding and had higher hopes heading into last season, but didn't have the year their fans had hoped for, either.
Despite both teams hitting their unders in 2019, the two are trending in opposite directions in the eyes of oddsmakers early in the 2020 offseason.
The Giants, entering 2019 with a win total of six and missing that with four wins, see their over/ under increase to 6.5, according to OddsShark.
On the flip side, the Jets entered last season with a win total of 7.5 and just barely missed that, finishing with a 7-9 record. Their outlook is different this upcoming season, though. OddsSharks' over/ under released on Tuesday drops Gang Green to 6.5 as well.
In regard to the Giants, three other NFC teams are also pegged at 6.5, the Lions, Panthers and Cardinals. While the second-lowest over/ under handed out, the Giants aren't predicted to be the worst team in the NFC or their division. The Redskins sit at the bottom of the barrel at 5.5.
Leading the way in the NFC is the defending champion 49ers at 10.5. The Eagles open as the NFC East favorite at 10 wins, with the Cowboys closed behind at nine.
In little surprise, the Super Bowl LIV champion Chiefs lead the AFC and league overall with an 11.5 mark and at the top among AFC East teams is the Patriots at 10.5.
Like the Giants, the Jets also have a divisional rival in the basement of their respective conference bringing up the rear, as the Dolphins and Bengals reside there at 5.5. The Bills round out the division at 8.5.
The final NFL team in the 6.5 win club is the Jaguars.
On paper, it would appear oddsmakers are buying into the future of the Giants with quarterback Daniel Jones now the undisputed leader of the offense with new head coach Joe Judge on board. Meaning in Jets land another year with head coach Adam Gase steering the ship doesn't appear to be much of a convincing prospect just yet.
