With the coaches returning to work today amid uncertainty, the Jets have granted defensive coordinator Mike Pettine permission to speak with the Buffalo Bills according to Conor Orr of The Star-Ledger.
Pettine has received permission from #Jets to interview with Buffalo, per sourceNo real surprise here. Rumors have been flying recently that Pettine was leaking information to the media and, as Bassett reported a couple of weeks ago, it got to the point where the Jets were monitoring his communications. Pettine's relationship with the team has been further compounded by his significantly deteriorated relationship with Rex Ryan as friction built over the course of the 2012 season. Add in the fact that he turned down a contract extension, it's not too difficult to connect the dots--Pettine's time in New York is coming to an end. His contract expires at the end of the month so regardless of whether or not he lands the job in Buffalo, Pettine will likely be another casualty this offseason.
