The Jets have continued to have conversations with free agent G Greg Van Roten, reports SNY's Ralph Vacchiano, who adds that the 6-3, 308-pound Long Islander -- who started the last two years with the Carolina Panthers -- could be the next piece the Jets add to their offensive line.
On day one of free agency, the Jets inked former Seahawks OT George Fant to a three-year deal that could be worth a maximum of $30 million. Fant will get $13.7 million guaranteed in the deal.
While the Jets signed Fant, they missed out on the bigger fish among the other free agent linemen -- including Jack Conklin and Graham Glasgow. Gang Green had Glasgow high on their list before he landed elsewhere.
As far as Fant goes, he wasn't a first-stringer for the Seahawks in his three seasons there, instead backing up Duane Brown at left tackle.
Fant did appear in all 16 games in 2019, but only had seven starts. Also, per Michael Nania, Fant was ranked 75th out of 84 qualified tackles in pass blocking last season, which was worse than Brandon Shell and Chuma Edoga -- two players the Jets were trying to upgrade from this offseason.
So even with Fant on board, the Jets are clearly in need of further upgrades to their O-line.
