Star safety Jamal Adams, who has not been attending the team's voluntary virtual offseason program, requested a trade from the Jets on Thursday, SNY Insider Ralph Vacchiano confirms.

Adams said earlier on Thursday that it may be "time to move on" from the team in responding to a comment on Instagram.

"I deserve to be paid but when i ask to be taking (sic) care of I'm 'BEING THAT GUY' huh? What does Pat have to do with me? Pat is about to get 40 to 60 M's a year. Well deserved. That's my guy. But don't compare me to QB's if you aren't paying me QB money. S--t, if I was about to get 40 plus u wouldn't hear a damn word from me. Lol fr fr. Don't use the pandemic excuse. CM22 got paid not too long ago. Well deserved. Great friend of mine. You're lost my guy. Ima protect myself just like an organization will look out for themselves at the end of the day. & if you guys don't respect that, cool. It's all luv. Maybe it's time to move on! Can't trick a WIZARD! Luv"

Per ESPN's Adam Schefter, Adams would welcome a trade to seven teams, inlcuding the Cowboys (who have previously had interest in Adams), Eagles, Ravens, and Chiefs, among others.

Vacchiano reported on May 22 that the Jets have no intention of trading Adams despite the latest impasse in contract negotiations, with their focus instead on eventually signing him to an extension.

Earlier this offseason Jets GM Joe Douglas said his plan was to speak with Adams and his representatives.

"I'm not going to get into any discussions that we had. My stance on Jamal hasn't changed," Douglas said, alluding to his comments earlier this offseason about wanting Adams to be a Jet for life. "At some point, we're going to get with him and his representatives. I think right now, the very next thing is wrapping up this undrafted free agent process."

Vacchiano has reported that the most likely scenario was that the Jets wouldn't extend Adams this offseason, noting that the team had control over him through the 2023 season.

On April 2, Mike Fisher 105.3 FM in Dallas reported that if the Dallas Cowboys "sense" that the Jets and Adams are having trouble coming to terms on a long-term extension, they will "circle back with a high pick offer."

Adams' future with Gang Green first came into question just before last season's trade deadline, when reports surfaced that the Jets and Cowboys had engaged in trade conversations -- with Adams saying at the time that he would welcome a trade to his hometown team.

According to Vacchiano, the Jets took calls from several teams on Adams in advance of the deadline and appeared to come "fairly close" to trading him to the Cowboys.

At the time, Douglas admitted he was willing to listen to offers on just about any player, including Adams and running back Le'Veon Bell, but he set the prices exorbitantly high and wasn't willing to budge. A source told SNY that for Adams he wanted a first-round pick and at least one more first-round pick or multiple second-round picks in return.

Adams will not be a free agent until after the 2021 season, but the Jets could potentially keep him beyond then by tagging him if they can't reach an extension (and don't trade him) between now and then.
