Lawrence Thomas is a multi-talented player that can compete on both sides of the ball, but the Jets have decided he will now focus on one position.
Thomas has switched his number from 97 to 44 as he now prepares to be the team's fullback. The number change allows Thomas to play at the position without having to report as eligible to referees.
"He's going to line up at fullback, but he'll play defense in emergencies," coach Todd Bowles told reporters Wednesday. 'He's going to play a lot more on offense."
So far this season, the defensive end-turned-fullback has one catch for 15 yards. Last week against the Jaguars, he took snaps on offense, defense and special teams.
"It feels good just to be able to do so much at the highest level," Thomas said. "It's like going back to my roots -- little league football, high school and college. I like being able to do everything, being the versatile player that I am. It's showing I can do it all right now at this high level."
