The Jets on Tuesday placed WR Rishard Matthews on injured reserve and signed T Eric Smith off the Patriots' practice squad, the team announced.

The 29-year-old Matthews, who injured his hamstring during Saturday's loss to the Texans, caught two passes in five games for the Jets after signing with the team in October.

Matthews, the Dolphins' seventh-round pick in the 2012 NFL draft, joined the Jets after being released by the Titans due to unhappiness with his playing time.

In 87 games between the three clubs, Matthews has tallied 3,160 receiving yards and 21 touchdowns over seven seasons. He will become an unrestricted free agent this offseason.

Smith, 23, was added to New England's practice squad in September.

The 6-foot-4, 308-pound tackle signed with the Dolphins last year as an undrafted free agent before ultimately getting cut by Miami at the start of this season. He played at Virginia for three collegiate seasons.
