Jets QB Sam Darnold is officially out for Sunday's game against the Patriots.
The rookie will miss his second consecutive game continuing to recover from a strained right foot he sustained in a Week 9 loss to the Dolphins.
Josh McCown, who started in the Jets' Week 10 41-10 loss to the Bills, will get the nod under center once again.
Darnold and head coach Todd Bowles expressed plenty of optimism about the progress being made but the Jets quarterback did not practice all week despite dressing for it in recent days.
Darnold has thrown for 1,934 yards, 11 touchdowns and 14 interceptions in nine games this season and struggled mightily in the last three games he played -- tossing two touchdowns to seven interceptions.
McCown, a 39-year-old veteran, did not fare much better in Darnold's place -- throwing for 135 yards and two interceptions last time out.
In addition to Darnold being out on Sunday, S Marcus Maye (shoulder/thumb) and OL James Carpenter (shoulder) are doubtful and LB Brandon Copeland (elbow) and WR Robby Anderson (ankle) are questionable.
