As free agency approaches, the Jets are expected to be major players with an estimated $95 million available in cap space.
Among the players the Jets could target: linebacker Anthony Barr.
Per Connor Hughes of The Athletic, the Jets are "very, very high" on Barr and could be ready to offer him the most money once the market opens.
Barr, who turns 27 this month, is a five-year veteran and was four-time Pro Bowler with the Minnesota Vikings.
The 6-foot-5, 255-pounder proved to be a versatile linebacker in Minnesota, showing the ability to drop back in coverage and rush the passer.
He recorded a career-low 55 tackles last season but still had three sacks and a forced fumble in
13 games, missing the three games due to a hamstring injury.
Barr played in a 4-3 base defense with the Vikings last season but the Jets are planning to stick with a 3-4 defense under new defensive coordinator Gregg Williams.
Barr's speed, however, could make him a good fit as an outside linebacker in the 3-4 scheme and his ability to get to the quarterback - 23 pressures on 94 pass-rush attempts, per Pro Football Focus - could make him exactly what the Jets need.
