Jets head coach Todd Bowles said S Marcus Maye underwent surgery on Tuesday to repair his shoulder injury that placed him on the IR for the remainder of the season.
When asked about his expected recovery, Bowles answered with "a couple months," which is a good sign for the second-year player.
Maye, a second-round pick in 2017, is the seventh-leading tackler for the Jets in 2018-2019. He tallied 34 tackles, a half-sack, a forced fumble and one interception in six games this season.
He turned some heads earlier this year with an interception return against the Broncos. The 104-yard interception return is the longest in franchise history.
Cornerback Jeremy Clark was promoted to the active roster to take Maye's place.
