Sam Darnold appeared to take a step forward to returning to the field but it may have just been a facade.
The Jets rookie quarterback suited up for practice on Wednesday but did not participate.
Darnold did not play in a Week 10 loss to the Bills due to a strained right foot and did not practice on Monday when the Jets returned from their bye week.
Head coach Todd Bowles has not ruled out Darnold for Sunday's game vs. the Patriots but if the 21-year-old rookie is unable to practice it is likely that Josh McCown will get the nod at starting quarterback for the second consecutive game.
