This comes just a day after Allen tore his Achilles tendon at practice and is now out for the season. There was no contact involved. Allen fell as he came out of his stance in an 11-on-11 drill and grabbed his right ankle. Dee Milliner sustained a season-ending Achilles’ tear last year in a similar manner (Aug. 6).
Allen is in the final year of the four-year contract he signed after the Jets drafted him in the seventh round from South Carolina in 2012. He started nine games in 2013 and eight last season, with time at cornerback in 2014.
Lyn, 23, attended Syracuse University where he played in 38 games and totaled three interceptions. Lyn was signed by the Colts as an undrafted free agent after the 2014 NFL Draft.
As feared, the Jets will be without Allen for 2015 and he will head into unrestricted free agency at the end of the season. Rontez Miles and Durell Eskridge will be competing to be the next man up. As for Lyn, he was once projected as a 2014 late round pick, but a fractured kneecap in 2013 derailed his career. He was signed by the Colts in 2014, but they released him before he could make his recovery and since then he's had spells in Canada and Arena Football. Lyn has nice size (6'1" and 201 pounds) and was believed to have 4.4 forty speed before he got hurt.
