The team is looking to ink the 26-year-old Howard to a multi-year deal.
I wrote the following back on January 22nd:
The Jets met with Howard at the combine last year to talk contracts with the then-restricted free agent, but we’re hopeful an extension for the 26-year old will be taken care of before then this time around.
With the combine set to get underway about this time next week, it sounds like everything is still right on schedule. By then, they'll hopefully have reached a position where the parameters of the deal have been agreed in principle so it will just be a matter of finalizing the deal next week.
According to data from Pro Football Focus, there were 59 tackles in the NFL that played over 600 snaps last year and all of them either committed three penalties or surrendered three sacks, apart from Howard, who only had two of each.
As for his "left-hand man", in case you missed it, Willie Colon said yesterday on Sirius radio that he hasn't had "any dialogue" with the Jets yet. It's possible he would have been the next priority after getting Howard locked up, but his injury in the last game of the season potentially throws a wrench in the works, so we'll have to wait and see what happens.
