Free agent T Kelvin Beachum has agreed to sign with the Jaguars, reports Adam Schefter of ESPN (Mar. 15).
The Jets recently had the 26-year-old Beachum in for a visit, according to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network.
The Steelers were looking to re-sign Beachum, who missed most of the 2015 season after he tore his ACL in October, Ian Rapoport said last week.
I'll admit I'm bummed that the Jets couldn't bring Beachum in on a contract. He would have been a savvy solution to the Jets' line problems from 2015 at right tackle with potential at left tackle this year or next. Now the level of talent falls off quickly in the remaining free agent pool.
Since Breno Giacomini was at or below replacement level for the Jets last year, Beachum would've theoretically slid into the RT spot as an upgrade if he had signed with the Jets.
So what are the Jets to do? Expect them to sign a veteran or two to bolster the group they have, but the NFL Draft will have to be a major way in which the Jets get better on the offensive line in 2016.
