Last season, Jets CB Trumaine Johnson was the new kid on the block. He had to learn new schemes, meet and build relationships with new teammates, and get used to a new city.

But, with new defensive coordinator Gregg Williams joining the team in 2019, Johnson will be one of the few Jets who already knows what to expect.

For three seasons during his Rams career, Johnson had Williams as his defensive coordinator. He knows what system he likes to run, and of course, his very aggressive demeanor on the game and practice field. As they reunite again with Gang Green, Johnson is excited for the defense's potential under Williams' guidance.

"Gregg's an aggressive coach, for sure," Johnson told newyorkjets.com. "He's a players' coach. He's one of those coaches, he demands respect, for sure, one of those coaches you like to run through a wall with. So it's going to be nice for us."

Hopefully Williams' first year in New York goes smoother than Johnson's. First, it was Johnson's quad injury that held him out five games, which the competitor in him wanted to work through quickly to return to the team.

However, it was the season finale is the game Johnson wish he could get back. Former head coach Todd Bowles made the decision to bench Johnson for the game against the Patriots after showing up late to practice for oversleeping. It was something at the time he said "definitely" let the team down.

But now, with head coach Adam Gase leading the way, Johnson is exonerated of his previous mishaps.

"Not playing that last game with my teammates hurt," he said. "Of course, last year was last year and that was my fault, for sure. A clean slate is definitely good for myself."

Johnson also knows what it takes to play in this city, and with the Jets bringing in more help through free agency and the NFL Draft, he can't wait to get back to work. The team has already started voluntary minicamps, but this is all key preparation for what Johnson wants to do in 2019: Win games.

Oh, and the personal goal of reaching his first Pro Bowl.

"I couldn't wait to come back here and reunite with the guys," Johnson said, adding of his expectations for '19: "Pro Bowl, of course. And I've always been a team guy, so I'd love to win here."
