The Jets have waived safety Brandon Bryant, the team announced Thursday.
The second-year defensive back from Mississippi State suffered a head injury in Saturday's 28-13 loss to the New Orleans Saints at MetLife Stadium. He entered the week in concussion protocol.
Bryant, 23, returned to the Jets' 2019 training camp on the Physically Unable to Peform (PUP) list before activating him July 30.
The 6-foot, 215-pounder went undrafted in the 2018 NFL supplemental draft before he signed with the Jets. His rookie season then ended before it could start when the Jets released him at the end of the 2018 preseason.
Things got better, though, when the Jets brought Bryant back as a member of the practice squad. They even promoted him to the roster for the Dec. 30 regular-season finale -- a 38-3 loss to the New England Patriots -- although he did not play.
A three-year player at Mississippi State (2015-17), Bryant totaled 157 tackles (3.5 for loss), 1.5 sacks and five interceptions in 37 games.
