Kerley blames ghost for PED's 00:05:09
On Loud Mouths, the guys fill in the blanks on hot topics including Manny Machado, Ian Kinsler, Jeremy Kerley's ghost and Star Wars.

Jets wide receiver Jeremy Kerley said he still wasn't sure how a banned substance in his system led to a four-game suspension and suggested it was because of a ghost.

"I don't know, a lot of ghosts around here," Kerley said, according to Newsday's Calvin Watkins. "Ghost put it in. You know the ghost of Christmas past."

The 29-year-old Kerley is eligible to return for Sunday's game against the New Orleans Saints after the league announced his suspension in early November.

Then, Kerley denied knowingly taking any banned substances and said he has never used steroids in his life.

"I'm a good athlete but anyone can look at my body composition and tell that I'm not a steroid user," Kerley said in a statement last month. "While I did not have enough time prior to the deadline to resolve this case, I fully intend to investigate this matter until I am able to figure out what caused the positive test, because I know that I have done nothing wrong. When I find out what substance was tainted, I will pursue all remedies at that time because this is not right. I have and will always be a clean player ..."

Kerley has 22 catches for 217 yards and one touchdown this season.

Monday Night Football was a heck of a game for Jets safety Jamal Adams

The first storyline surrounding him following the 23-3 loss for his team to the Cleveland Browns was him being pulled from the game by head coach Adam Gase late in the contest.

Now there's a fine and some backlash to discuss.

Jets QB Sam Darnold has remained out due to mono. Due to the nature of the illness, a clear target date for his potential return has been hard to nail down. Here are the latest updates...

Sept. 18, 3:44 AM:

The biggest issue with Darnold's illness is the fact that the possibility of an enlarged spleen could be a side effect. Well, that's exactly what Darnold has.

He confirmed it during his press conference on Wednesday, saying it "needs to get a little smaller for me to play." An enlarged spleen is a serious matter, especially for someone playing a contact sport. Darnold can participate in non-contact activities, but if the enlarged spleen doesn't subside, he won't be able to go out there. So time will tell.

Jamal Adams may have scared Jets fans Tuesday when he took the team out of his Instagram and Twitter bios. This day and age, that's a main cause for speculation that a player isn't happy with his current situation.

Adams, though, went on WFAN afterward and didn't say he was displeased with the Jets. Instead, he brushed off the questions about his social media move.

"It's social media. At the end of the day, it's outside noise. I'm not focused on that," Adams said when Maggie Gray asked what we should make of the changes.

Before answering questions during his Wednesday press conference, Jets head coach Adam Gase dished out some injury updates and rookie DT Quinnen Williams had the best one.

Williams has been dealing with an ankle injury that kept him out of Monday Night Football against the Browns. However, Gase says everything is trending in the right direction for him to return to practice on Thursday.

Gase noted that Williams, the team's No. 3 overall draft pick back in April, won't be at practice today. Instead, he'll be working on his strength and conditioning, but he's expecting him to be back out there with the team tomorrow. That's big news as the Jets will want as many of their best players on the field as possible against the Patriots this week.

Ty Montgomery talks Jets 00:01:45
Ty Montgomery sits down with Jeane Coakley and talks about when he knew he wanted to be a football player and why fans should stay positive.

The Jets are signing QB David Fales to back up Luke Falk, a source confirmed to SNY's Ralph Vacchiano.

Fales played under head coach Adam Gase when the Jets' head coach was with the Dolphins.

The 28-year-old Fales has not played a regular season NFL game since 2017, when he played two games for the Dolphins -- completing 29 of 43 passes for 265 yards with one touchdown and one interception.

As rookie quarterback Daniel Jones takes over the Giants' offense for 17th-year veteran Eli Manning, a decision announced Tuesday by New York, the crosstown starter has an idea of what the transition will be like.

Just last year, fresh off the Jets making him the No. 3 overall pick in the 2018 NFL draft, Sam Darnold ascended to the top of the depth chart and began his rookie season with the Jets as the team's starter.

Now in his second year with New York while he works back from mononucleosis, Darnold understands that the news can be tough for Manning to process, but the development should only help Jones as the Giants move forward.

Speaking publicly for the first time since his mono diagnosis, Jets QB Sam Darnold gave an update on his health on Tuesday.

Appearing on The Michael Kay Show, Darnold explained that he's hopeful he can return for the Jets' Week 5 matchup in Philadelphia.

While Week 5 seems to make sense, with the Jets coming off their early by week, SNY's Ralph Vacchiano has noted that Darnold's absence could stretch until Week 7, based on what he's heard from doctors.

Luke Falk

The Jets were forced to go to their third-string quarterback in Luke Falk during Monday night's 23-3 loss to the Browns after Trevor Siemian left with what was revealed to be season-ending ligament damage.

So, with Siemian out and Sam Darnold still fighting mono, head coach Adam Gase has no choice but to go with Falk into Foxborough to face the 2-0 Patriots on their home turf.

But make no mistake the Jets are definitely looking to add another signal caller before that game.

If the Jets weren't going through enough with their quarterback situation, injury woes, and falling to 0-2, Jamal Adams added to the pile on Tuesday morning when he removed the Jets from his social media bios on Twitter and Instagram.

In this day and age, that is to normally send a message to a team. But speaking on WFAN with Maggie Gray and Bart Scott, Adams assured everyone that wasn't the case.

"It's social media. At the end of the day, it's outside noise. I'm not focused on that," Adams said when Gray asked what we should make of the changes.

Jets QB Sam Darnold will remain inactive for Week 3 against the Patriots, but he is making progress in his return from mono.

Darnold, who had been quarantined since his illness was diagnosed, was at the Jets' facility on Tuesday, head coach Adam Gase said, adding that Darnold is "feeling better."

"We will really have a better idea (of when Darnold can return) when the doctors give us the green light that he can progress," Gase said. "The doctors are letting us know when to proceed with him."

Jets QB Trevor Siemian, who exited Monday night's loss against the Browns due to an ankle injury, is out for the season, head coach Adam Gase said on Tuesday.

Gase said the injury was ligament related and that there was no break, adding that Siemian will likely need surgery.

While the Jets are now without starter Sam Darnold and their backup, Gase said Tuesday that the team will go with Luke Falk as their starter until Darnold returns -- with the team looking to acquire a backup.

The Jets' quarterback situation after Trevor Siemian went down with an injury on Monday night got even worse, as Sam Darnold is still fighting mono. That paired with other issues the team is facing has sportsbooks predicting their next contest to be a blowout.

The Jets are set to travel to Foxborough to face the 2-0 Patriots this Sunday, and New England is an obvious favorite to stay undefeated in this one. But with Luke Falk set to start for the Jets and the Patriots being absolutely dominant in their first two games, the spread is massive.

The Patriots are giving 22.5 points to the Jets, according to multiple sportsbooks. That spread is unheard of for an NFL game, but with the Pats outscoring their opponents 76-3 so far this season, paired with the Jets' struggles, many believe it isn't far-fetched.

The Jets suffered another loss on Monday, and it certainly hasn't been the start to the season the team had hoped for.

And it doesn't look like Pro Bowl safety Jamal Adams is taking well.

Adams has taken out the Jets from his Twitter and Instagram bios, and it appears he unfollowed the team on his Instagram page. He is still following them on Twitter as of now.

Trevor Siemian will have an MRI on his ankle Tuesday morning, but the injury sure didn't look good. Sam Darnold is already out with mono, possibly until late October. That leaves Luke Falk, who made his NFL debut on Monday night, as the only quarterback on the roster.

So yes, the Jets need help at quarterback and they need it quickly.

Unfortunately, quarterbacks aren't exactly easy to find.

Reaction to Johnson benching 00:01:59
Ray Lucas and Bart Scott react to Trumaine Johnson's benching, their take on the situation might surprise you.

No one knew why cornerback Trumaine Johnson spent roughly the first three quarters out of action until head coach Adam Gase spoke briefly after the game.

Unable to sustain drive on offense, the defense suffered for the Jets in Monday's 23-3 loss to the Cleveland Browns.

Among the questions SNY's Ray Lucas and Bart Scott had once the final horn sounded, what was the real reason why Gase and Gang Green kept Johnson on the sidelines?

Johnson comments on benching 00:01:00
Trumaine Johnson reacts to not starting against the Browns. It was a surprising move that Gase said wasn't due to discipline reasons.

Decimated by injuries, including linebacker C.J. Mosley (strained groin) and defensive tackle Quinnen Williams (sprained left ankle), the Jets trotted out a revised defense against a Browns offense littered with dangerous skill players but did not play Trumaine Johnson until the cornerback was forced into action.

Cleveland Browns wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. gave Jets defensive coordinator Gregg Williams a piece of his mind on the field and taste of his own medicine off of it on Monday night.

Williams, when asked a question about Beckham this week, started his reply with, "Odell who?"

Beckham downplayed a lot during his press conference following his team's 23-3 win against the Jets. One thing he couldn't help himself with was his thoughts on Williams.

OK, now what?

It was bad enough when the Jets learned quarterback Sam Darnold was out indefinitely with mono, but now they've lost backup quarterback Trevor Siemian, too. He suffered what looked like a nasty ankle injury in the first half of the Jets' 23-3 loss to the Cleveland Browns on Monday night. That forced the Jets to turn to Luke Falk, who had been promoted from the practice squad earlier in the day.

The Jets already had lost quarterback Trevor Siemian due to an ankle injury the second quarter of the game.

When the team announced the quarterback's injury designation, as his night was finished, it also indicated that the veteran wideout's night was also over due to a hamstring injury as well.

The Jets lost quarterback Trevor Siemian in the second quarter of their Monday Night Football matchup against the Cleveland Browns at MetLife Stadium due to injury.

Scrambling to his right, Siemian was hit by Browns pass rusher Myles Garrett and his ankle was caught underneath his body and folded awkwardly. The play occurred on a third-and-16 play and the hit earned Garrett a roughing the passer penalty.

Siemian was 3-for-6 passing with only three yards prior to exiting the game, which he was starting in place of quarterback Sam Darnold, who is currently sidelined while he battles mono.

This time, however, he heads to the visiting sideline.

Is Odell right about Williams? 00:00:39
New York Jets defensive coordinator Gregg Williams and Odell Beckham Jr. had some words this past week, we'll see what happens tonight.

Ralph Vacchiano | Facebook | Twitter | Archive

Odell Beckham Jr. made waves last week when he went public with accusations that Jets defensive coordinator Gregg Williams once told players to purposely injury him.

And that wasn't the first time Beckham thought Williams ordered his players to take the star receiver out.

The Beckham-Williams feud has its roots in 2014, when Beckham was a rookie with the Giants and Williams was fresh off his BountyGate suspension as the defensive coordinator for the St. Louis Rams. In a late December game, Rams defenders appeared to target Beckham multiple times with late or questionably legal hits.

With the health of QB Sam Darnold up in the air for the next few weeks, the Jets announced Monday afternoon that they've signed Luke Falk to the active roster, and in turn, have waived S Bennett Jackson.

Falk is now set to back up Trevor Siemian tonight, as the Jets host the Browns and Odell Beckham Jr. at MetLife Stadium for Monday Night Football.

The second-year man of out Washington State performed well for the Jets during the preseason, completing 80.6 percent of his passes (29-of-36) for 230 yards, two touchdowns and zero interceptions.

Sam Darnold (Vincent Carchietta)
Sam Darnold (Vincent Carchietta)

Sam Darnold will definitely be out against the Browns on Monday night, as he continues to deal with mono. But, according to ESPN's Chris Mortensen, he doesn't think he'll be out too long.

Sources have told Mort that Darnold is saying he's "already feeling better," and he is aiming for a Week 5 return against the Eagles following the bye week.

That's all great to hear, but that's a bold statement there considering how serious of an illness mono is. SNY's Ralph Vacchiano has two doctors telling him that Week 5 would definitely be a stretch considering the recovery Darnold has to go through. Instead, those doctors believe a Week 7 return against the Patriots is a more likely outcome.

The Jets decided not to put Sam Darnold on injured reserve because that would've required him to miss the next eight weeks and, according to Jets coach Adam Gase, the quarterback's expected absence is "not going to be that long."

But it could be close.

Though many initially assumed that, after the 22-year-old Darnold was diagnosed with mono, he would return in Week 5 -- right after the Jets bye week -- the Jets just aren't sure he'll be able to be back that quickly. The truth is the Jets don't know yet when to expect him back, multiple sources said.

Jets defensive lineman Henry Anderson was fined for a hit on Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen in his team's 17-16 season opening loss in Week 1.

He will be dinged $10,527 by the NFL, it was announced on Saturday.

Anderson had a late hit on Allen in the game. Later on it was revealed via cameras that Anderson also took a low shot on Allen, too. Having fallen to the ground, Anderson crawled to the side of Allen's legs after a pass and knocked him down.

Adam Gase 1-on-1 00:02:01
SNY's Jeane Coakley talks with Jets Head Coach Adam Gase on rallying the team after last week's loss and several injuries to key players

While the Jets technically had an extra 24 hours to get C.J. Mosley ready to return for Monday's 8:15 p.m. matchup with the Cleveland Browns after a groin injury in the past weekend's 17-16 loss against the Buffalo Bills, the clock was ticking on the linebacker's decision, which came Saturday.

After the team took Friday off, New York resumed practice Saturday and in the afternoon ruled the linebacker -- as well as defensive tackle Quinnen Williams (sprained left ankle) -- out for Monday's game.

Mosley, who sat out the week while he worked his way back, needed to get back on the field Saturday or else he would jeopardize his status for Monday.

Gregg Williams
Gregg Williams

Ralph Vacchiano | Facebook | Twitter | Archive

Gregg Williams took the bait, because of course he did. That's exactly what he wanted to do. He didn't have to. He's a grown man, 61 years old, a coach with 30 years of NFL experience. He could have just let those nasty things that Odell Beckham Jr. said about him go.

But that's not Williams' style. He's a brash, harsh, tough guy who at the very least wants to project the image that he'll never back down from a fight. So when he was asked on Friday about Beckham's accusation that Williams ordered his players to intentionally injure the attention-seeking receiver two years ago, Williams began by saying this:

"Odell who?"
