Bush wrote the rap during training camp, specifically for the talent show that all rookies have to participate in, a rite of passage if you will around NFL circles. Both composer and lyricist of the tune, Bush said he wrote the song about his own life and how he’s fought to get where he’s at right now but in it, he used football as a metaphor. The song is played during pregame warm-ups at MetLife Stadium but rookie linebacker Demario Davis told The Jets Blog that the team often plays it on the road in the locker room to get themselves ready for the game.
“I’ve been playing music for a while; I don’t even really know how or when I first fell in love with music,” Bush told The Jets Blog. “I guess in high school, it started when someone bet me that I couldn’t learn how to play the guitar and I did. Then one day, I started to teach myself the piano. From there it has only grown.”
The lyrics for “Jet Life Dreams” took 45 minutes to write and everything was produced and generated on his laptop. So far, it has been a hit as the song has nearly 5,500 listens on the popular SoundCloud.com music download website not to mention the fans who enjoy it at the stadium on Sunday – and his own teammates.
Music has always been of interest for Bush and runs in the family; his cousin has produced hip hop and R & B songs and is currently in a rock band. Bush doesn’t remember the first song he wrote but with a laugh says “It was probably about a girl.”
He’s looking forward to the offseason when he can compose more music and he’s got a new partner as a sounding board, Darrelle Revis. The man known as “Revis Island” is a big music fan “and loves to listen to music, all types” Bush said.
“He does it for fun like I do so it’s really something that we can both share this passion, this mutual passion for music,” Bush said. “I’ll send him some things, some ideas or things I’m working on and he’ll give me his opinion. Darrelle has a really good ear for this sort of stuff so I like hearing his opinion on it.”
