The Jets have re-signed LB/ST Josh Martin to a two-year, $4.3 million deal, the team announced Thursday night.
The fourth-year pro played in a career-high 15 games for New York last season, primarily on special teams.
The 25-year-old was the Jets' best special teams player by far. In fact, Bill Belichick called him "one of the top" special teams players in the NFL. That's important, especially for a rebuilding team filled with young players who'll be making up the special teams unit next season.
The price is reasonable too, and the 6-3, 245-pounder might even get a look at one of the linebacker spots at some point. Jets GM Mike Maccagnan insists he's committed to his young players, and Martin is one of the many who have shown some promise.
