Now Commenting On:

After the Jets-Bills game, Jets rookie Sheldon Richardson revealed to Kristian Dyer of Metro that he sustained a shoulder injury in the Jets opener against the Bucs and that he was concerned during the Bills game that he might have aggravated it during the Jets Sunday game.

A left shoulder contusion suffered in the Jets’ season opening win over the Buccaneers kept Richardson from being a full go in practice earlier last week, but Richardson bounced back to have a quietly solid four tackles and a sack in Sunday’s win over the Bills.

After warming up before the opening kickoff, Richardson’s shoulder stiffened up with the Jets’ opening drive taking 5:54 off the clock. That time of inactivity caught up to him on the opening series.

Richardson was checked out by the team’s medical staff after the game and everything came back “negative."

Sheldon Richardson has been a great player for the Jets so far and the team's strength in numbers across the defensive line has made their line one of the best in the league.  It is a good thing Richardson ended up being OK, but if the Jets can some two out of three rotation going between Wilkerson, Coples and Richardson the team will be well off all season long.  Of course they will be all the better when all three are good to go, as we saw last week against the Bills.  The Titans offensive line is not spectacular, so the Jets could again use that as a major advantage this weekend in Tennessee.

As an aside, Rex Ryan must think highly of Mizzou defensive linemen of late.  Back in 2011 he attended the Mizzou Pro Day, and while made headlines talking to Blaine Gabbert, seeing Aldon Smith up close was probably the reason for his attendance.  Richardson might not be the same style player Smith is, but he's proving to be an excellent draft pick by Rex Ryan & John Idzik.
