Mark Sanchez has a bold prediction for the Jets: They will play well enough to earn a first-round bye.
Sanchez made his game-by-game picks for the Jets on "NFL Total Access." Not only does he think they start out 2-0, but he thinks they go on a seven-game winning streak with a road win against the Eagles, followed by home victories over the Cowboys and Patriots.
The former first-round pick has the Jets going 13-3, which would break the franchise record for most single-season regular-season wins (12 in 1998).
Sure, there's optimism surrounding the team this year. They have a new head coach, a quarterback from USC and a strong defensive core.
But this isn't 2009 with Rex Ryan, Sanchez and Darrelle Revis.
This is 2019, starring Adam Gase, Sam Darnold and Jamal Adams.
When Sanchez was a rookie, the Jets went 9-7 and lost in the AFC title game. The following year, New York went 11-5 and beat the Patriots in the divisional round before falling in the conference championship game again.
Since then, the Jets haven't been back to the playoffs. But Sanchez sounds more than optimistic that the Jets, coming off a 4-12 season and boasting the additions of Le'Veon Bell and C.J. Mosley, could make a run.
