In this week's "Four Quarters" (video link here), Mike Westhoff described the design of the game-changing punt block by Joe McKnight, and how even he was surprised by the outcome:

“I thought strategically we would have three guys on two. If we did this exactly correct, we may get that,” Westhoff said. “I didn’t think it would necessarily be Joe. I thought the fullback would step in and take Joe, and we’d get 2-on-1 on the corner. As it turned out, they actually moved out a little bit better than I thought, although the fullback probably went further out than what they’d like him to, and Joe came clean and we blocked it.”

Adam Gase joined ESPN and YES Network's The Michael Kay Show on Tuesday to discuss the Jets' huge win over the Giants this past week.

Gase discussed the performance of his young quarterback Sam Darnold and how his play seemed different when compared to other weeks this season.

"I thought he played really well," Gase told Michael Kay. "He did a great job of controlling really the things that he could control. He did a good job of making the right decision when he was in the pocket, whether it be taking a sack, throwing the ball away, just those little tiny things instead of trying to go out there and win it by himself. He did a good job of spreading the ball around, doing what he had to do to move the ball down the field."

It was announced by Jets head coach Adam Gase that TE Chris Herndon and G Brian Winters suffered tough injuries during the win over the Giants on Sunday. Now, it's the last game the two Jets will play this season.

The Jets announced via Twitter that both Herndon and Winters have been placed on the season-ending IR. Herndon suffered a fractured rib, while Winters re-dislocated his shoulder and may need surgery.

This is particularily tough for Herndon, who had the exact opposite sophomore campaign (or lack thereof) than his rookie season, where he proved to be a playmaker at the tight end position.

Vernon Hargreaves (Kirby Lee)

The Jets need some cornerback help, and the Bucs may have just helped them out a bit with a transaction on Tuesday.

Tampa Bay released Vernon Hargreaves III, a former first-round pick back in 2016, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Hargreaves, who was arguably the top cornerback prospect coming out of Florida in that Draft, hasn't panned out with the Bucs. And during the team's loss to the Cardinals on Sunday, a certain non-hustle play that resulted in a large gain for Arizona prompted head coach Bruce Arians to bench him for the rest of the game.

The Jets win over the Giants in Week 10 came as a costly one.

Head coach Adam Gase said two starters, tight end Chris Herndon and offensive lineman Brian Winters, both suffered extensive injuries.

Herndon, who was making his season debut, fractured a rib. Winters re-dislocated his shoulder and may need surgery.

Ray Lucas and Bart Scott are happy after the Jets 34-27 win. It was a win the "team needed". Ray even hands out a golden football.

With both the Jets and Giants coming into Sunday's matchup on multi-game losing streaks and the New York media spinning this game up to decide who gets to call themselves the "best team in New York," you could say there was a lot riding on this matchup for both teams.

SNY's Bart Scott and Ray Lucas feel that now that the Jets have come out victorious, that outside noise will go away for now and the team can get some much needed rest.

Crowder: Jets showed resiliency 00:00:59
Jamison Crowder talked to Jeane Coakley after the Jets win. The wide out believes the team can build on this win to start a win streak.

Jets wide receiver Jamison Crowder spoke with SNY's Jeane Coakley after the team's 34-27 win over the Giants.

"I thought we played a really good game today," Crowder said. "Like you said, started out hot, kind of stalemated a little bit. But then was able to finish at the end of the game, and that's what we needed... Some things we still got to clean up, as always, but I thought we played good overall."

Crowder had five catches for 81 yards and one touchdown in the win. He scored on a 23-yard pass from Sam Darnold in the first quarter to give the Jets an early 14-0 lead.

Jamal Adams after Jets big win 00:02:18
Jamal Adams talks to Jeane Coakley after the Jets beat the Giants. Adams forced two fumbles and scored his second-career touchdown.

There's nothing else you can think of to say about Jamal Adams' performance against the Giants other than that he was all over the place in this game.

The third-year safety out of LSU was already having a good weekend with the Tigers beating Alabama on their home field, but he carried that into an even better performance at MetLife Stadium for the Jets.

Adams led the Jets with nine tackles, two sacks on Daniel Jones, a pass defended and forced two fumbles, including a strip sack that turned into a fumble recovery for a touchdown. Adams ripped the ball right out of Jones' hands after beating Saquon Barkley off the line of scrimmage, and took the ball to the house without it ever touching the ground.

In their first game against each other at their shared home in MetLife Stadium, Daniel Jones and Sam Darnold put up some solid numbers for their respective teams. But Darnold got the last laugh as the Jets pulled out a 34-27 win over the Giants.

On paper, it seems that Jones got the best of Darnold based on individual statistics--Jones finished the game 26-of-40 for 308 yards, four touchdowns and zero interceptions, compared to Darnold's not as eye popping performance of 230 yards and one touchdown on 19-of-30 passing--Darnold also ran in for a touchdown, as well.

But the glaring issues for Jones came at a familiar spot that's been hurting him all season: holding on to the football while in the pocket.

Jets happy after team win 00:01:32

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. - The season has already been embarrassing for the Giants. On Sunday they managed to make it worse.

And that's a huge problem for Giants head coach Pat Shurmur and his coaching staff after the Giants lost to the awful Jets, 34-27. Things were bad enough, but a loss to the crosstown rivals is a humiliating defeat that is sure to enrage owner John Mara. Even worse: They've now got two weeks to stew about it, thanks to an ill-timed bye.

To this point, Shurmur wasn't really on a hot seat and his coaching staff wasn't in much danger. The Giants underwent an uncharacteristic, in-season change just two years ago and don't really have an appetite to do that again. GM Dave Gettleman also genuinely seems to like Shurmur as a coach, and according to a team source, has preached patience and believes the team is headed in the right direction.

The Jets lost some protection for Sam Darnold in their tight matchup with the Giants Sunday, as right guard Brian Winters has been ruled out for the remainder of the game with a shoulder injury.

On a 3rd-and-11, Darnold tried connecting with Robby Anderson for the first down, but Anderson couldn't complete the catch before being taken down hard to the ground. The receiver was shaken up on the play and seemed to hurt his shoulder/collarbone, but was able to leave the field under his own power and eventually return to the game.

Back at the line of scrimmage, Winters was hit by another member of the offensive line and went down holding his shoulder area. He too was able to leave the field on his own after trainers came to check on him while down on the field.

Entering his sixth season in the NFL, Mosley had only missed three total games in his career prior to signing the with Jets in the offseason.

But in just his first game in green and white--a fantastic performance at that--Mosley injured his groin and has missed all but one game since.

Jets vs Giants preview 00:01:34
SNY's Ralph Vacchiano on the extreme pressure both the struggling Jets and Giants face as the teams go head to head on Sunday

Jets owner Christopher Johnson is "expected to remain patient" with Adam Gase and not looking to make a head-coaching change, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

The Jets want to see how Gase does on the job over a longer period of time and reportedly believe the situation "will sort itself out."

While the team is 1-7 entering Sunday afternoon's matchup with the Giants, it has dealt with injuries, as well as the loss of quarterback Sam Darnold earlier this season, when he was diagnosed with mononucleosis.

With the Giants and Jets playing each other on Sunday at MetLife Stadium, it will be the first time that quarterbacks Daniel Jones and Sam Darnold face off in the regular season.

Both QBs are just 22-years-old -- in fact, Jones is nine days older than Darnold -- and are already leading their teams as starters since being drafted. The Giants selected Jones with the No. 6 pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, while the Jets took Darnold third overall in the 2018 NFL Draft.

ESPN analyst Dan Orlovsky and CBS analyst Rich Gannon, both former NFL quarterbacks, spoke with Steve Serby of the NY Post to debate which quarterback looks better so far in their young careers.

Adams met with Douglas and Gase 00:02:24
Jamal Adams talks about his meeting with Adam Gase and Joe Douglas. It was good and Adams says he wants to win a Super Bowl with the Jets.

Jets star safety Jamal Adams says he has had "good" conversations with GM Joe Douglas and head coach Adam Gase, and that he and Douglas have apologized to each other, according to Manish Mehta of the NY Daily News.

"Yeah, I mean I would love to be here man," Adams said. "I would love to be here, it's simple as that. I want to bring success to this organization, I want to bring a Super Bowl to this organization. That's why I feel like I was placed in New York, to kind of pick up where my dad left off. His career was cut short, and I just feel like that's my calling. Do I want to be here? Yes, of course."

Since the trade deadline on Oct. 29, Adams has voiced his frustration with the team after he was reportedly shopped in trade negotiations with the Dallas Cowboys.

Every New York sports fan has their one favorite player or coach, past or present, that they absolutely love. They've given years of service to help your favorite team win, and they've done so while playing or managing at the highest level.

But not every marriage has come to a happy ending in the Big Apple.

While this city has had its fair share of legends on every team, there have also been some pretty bad breakups throughout each league. And, as agents of chaos in this case, we're here to remind you of some of the ugliest divorces that your favorite teams have seen in recent years.

The Giants and Jets are a combined 3-14, one year after going a combined 9-23, one year after going a combined 8-24. That's a 20-61 record over the last 2 ½ seasons, for a "winning" percentage of .246.

So no, the Giants and Jets don't match up particularly well with the rest of the professional football world right now. But how do they match up with each other?

In advance of their big showdown on Sunday at the Meadowlands, let's take a look:

The Jets have already been without their starting linebackers for weeks now. Leading up to Sunday's matchup with the Giants, it looks like they'll be without their starting cornerbacks as well.

Trumaine Johnson has hit the IR this week, and is likely done as a Jet. And now head coach Adam Gase revealed on Thursday that CB Darryl Roberts suffered a calf injury during practice on Wednesday.

According to The Daily News' Manish Mehta, Roberts is dealing with a calf strain, which would likely keep him out on Sunday.

The Jets placed CB Trumaine Johnson on Injured Reserve earlier this week, and the team has now added a new cornerback into the secondary mix.

The Jets have claimed CB Maurice Canady, who was waived by the Ravens on Tuesday. To make room on the roster, the team placed S Rontez Miles on IR.

Canady, a 25-year-old native of Richmond, Va., was originally a sixth round pick of the Ravens in 2016 out of Virginia. In 24 career games for Baltimore, Canady made two starts, recording 50 total tackles. He made his first career interception earlier this season against Baker Mayfield and the Browns.

Bell had an MRI on his knee on Tuesday, and was expected to work indoors on Wednesday while the team practiced outside. According to Gase, Bell was pushing to practice but was held back.

Gase added that he thinks Bell suffered the injury during one of his runs on Sunday against the Dolphins, and that he was still really sore.

The Jets announced Tuesday that they've placed CB Trumaine Johnson and WR Josh Bellamy on Injured Reserve.

Johnson, who played in seven games this season (five starts), had 25 tackles, two passes defended and one interception on the season before being placed on IR. He exited the Jets' loss to the Jaguars in Week 8 with an ankle injury and did not play in their loss to the Dolphins this week.

Based on his play for the team over the last two seasons and how his contract is set up, it isn't too far off to believe that Johnson will not suit up in a Jets uniform again.

As the Jets wait for the results on the MRI Le'Veon Bell had on his knee, the team has signed another running back to the active roster.

New York signed Josh Adams to the roster from the practice squad on Tuesday, reports Manish Mehta of the Daily News

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, though, the two situations are not related. Adams is joining the active roster, so the Jets can block a certain team from stealing him off the practice squad. Schefter's source says Bell is "good," and as NFL Network's Tom Pelissero pointed out as well, Bell was seen dancing in his recording studio and has had MRIs on his knee this year as a precaution.
