Yesterday marked the first time that defensive lineman Muhammad Wilkerson, Sheldon Richardson and Leonard Williams practiced together.
After watching practice, Westoff was thoroughly impressed with what he saw on the defensive line.
"I think they're outstanding. They can dominate the game." Westoff said. "From the way they look, oh my gosh, this is really a talented group. Buy a season ticket to watch these guys."
Wilkerson, Todd Bowles and Richardson discuss Day 1 of Jets mandatory minicamp and the defensive core they have for 2015...
Westhoff is precisely right. This group could be fantastic this season and it will be very fun to see defensive linemen compete for quarterback hurries, hits and sacks like receivers do for targets. The Jets dominant defensive line and secondary should be able to paper over a middling linebacking group and the hope is the disruption on the defense should be able to set up the offense in good spots. Of course, it is going to come down to what the offense can do once they are on the field. Smart attacking of defenses and keeping the chains moving will allow the defense some time to stay fresh and dominate their opponents.
