With Jeremy Kerley suspended, it's inevitable that Stewart and his fellow rookie, Chad Hansen will get more playing time over the next few weeks, but are they ready to start contributing? After each of them missed time during training camp, the rookies had found themselves struggling to see the field with Kerley, Jermaine Kearse and Robby Anderson ahead of them.
Remember Stewart's spectacular diving catch in the home opener against Miami? You may not, because it seems to have been forgotten. Since that game, Stewart has caught just one pass for two yards and has played one less snap than Hansen. It's not like either of them is getting much of a chance to contribute though. Hansen hasn't been targeted all season and although Stewart was in for 18 snaps on Thursday night, the Jets only actually threw the ball on one of those plays.
It would be fair to question whether either of them is getting any separation when asked to run routes, but Hansen was actually open a couple of times in the last game and McCown went elsewhere with the ball.
The Jets have some plays in the playbook where they can get the ball into their receiver's hands easily, so perhaps that's something they'll look to do this week in order to get the youngsters some confidence and into the rhythm of the game.
