NFL Draft expert Gil Brandt knows what the Jets should do at No. 11

Between a OT or WR, Brandt thinks Douglas will go with the former

In his first time leading an NFL Draft, what should Jets GM Joe Douglas do with that No. 11 overall pick?

It's the biggest question Gang Green faces leading into this year's draft, and NFL Draft expert and former front office exec Gil Brandt knows what his answer would be if given the choice.

Offensive tackle.

Why? It's all about value for Brandt, who sees a bunch of solid receivers later in the draft compared to the Big Four offensive tackles in Tristan Wirfs, Jedrick Wills, Mekhi Becton, and Andrew Thomas. All four of these prospects will be gone in the first round, and after that, it's a steep dropoff of talent in Brandt's eyes.

"I don't think there's a lot of difference between four tackles in this draft (Wills, Wirfs, Thomas and Becton)," he said during a conference call for SiriusXM NFL Radio on Tuesday. "They're all very good. I think I would probably take a tackle because I think you're going to go into the second round and get a good wide receiver. There's some good wide receivers you're going to be able to get in the second round. You won't get the same type of offensive linemen, value wise."

The Jets could be leaning toward getting Sam Darnold his No. 1 receiver of the future -- say, Jerry Jeudy or CeeDee Lamb. But Douglas also made a promise to Darnold's parents back when he took the GM post that he would also be protecting their son. Doing so with a revamped offensive line, which he has worked on already with five free agent additions, makes sense as well.

There is no wrong answer for the Jets no matter which way Douglas decides to go. But Brandt's reasoning is the reasoning of many other experts that think Douglas will be completing his o-line overhaul in the first round next Thursday.
