Former Giants QB and current CBS analyst, Phil Simms, gave his thoughts on both the Jets and Giants for the upcoming season. And for those Jets fans that believe the team has a chance to see a playoff game next year, Simms isn't on your side.

"Yeah, I'd be shocked," he told NJ.com's Darryl Slater at NFL on CBS media day. "I'd be really surprised, just because: Name me the guys that are going to win the game."

The Jets do have some young, talented players like Jamal Adams and Leonard Williams. And their No. 3 overall pick in Sam Darnold, who many believe will get the nod to start Week 1. However, Simms isn't confident in this group to finish games in the win column.

But fellow CBS analyst in former Cowboys QB Tony Romo thinks no one is giving the Jets the credit they deserve.

"I think they're better than people give them credit for," Romo said. "I think they have a chance to be good. I think if Sam Darnold is as good as I think he is, I think they're going to be good.

"Is it this year? It's not implausible for them to make noise this year. It would be really difficult to stand here and say they're going to win the Super Bowl. But in the National Football League, you can turn things around very quickly."

As for the Giants, Simms considers his former team a playoff contender based off the moves they made this offseason.

"I do think they're a definite playoff contender," he explained. "As an announcer and as an analyst and being an ex-Giant, I would be disappointed if they're not a playoff team. All the moves they made are for now."

Simms likes that mindset from GM Dave Gettleman, which is why he gave two thumbs up to the Saquon Barkley pick at No. 2 in April.

"They want to win now," he said. "When you bring a quarterback in, you create controversy."
