For the second straight year, the Jets own the third overall pick in the NFL Draft. And after securing a potential franchise quarterback in Sam Darnold in 2018, the expectation is to bring another immediate impact player aboard.
Quinnen Williams is widely expected to be a top five pick when the first round rolls around on April 25. Ando n Thursday, the former University of Alabama standout put some work in the weight room with a current Jets defensive lineman in Leonard Williams.
It's certainly something to keep an eye on, as Quinnen Williams would fill a need for the Jets on the interior defensive line. He regularly dominated some of the best offensive lines in the country during SEC play for the Crimson Tide during his redshirt sophomore season.
The Birmingham, Ala. native played nine games in 2017 before breaking out last season with 71 total tackles, including 45 solo and 19.5 for a loss, and eight sacks in 15 games for the national runner-ups. Williams profiles as a run-stopper up the middle and has the ability to draw double-teams in the trenches.
With plenty of work to do this offseason, the Jets could certainly provide the defense with an anchor in Williams. After all, a potential Williams-Williams connection on the defensive line has already been built.
