Cornerback/punt returner Marcus Sherels, who visited with the New York Jets earlier this week, re-signed a two-year deal with the Minnesota Vikings, according to the St. Paul Pioneer Press' Chris Tomasson.
Sherels, 28, visited with New York on Thursday, according to the Minneapolis Star Tribune's Matt Vensel. He averaged 9.1 yards per return last year has returned three punts for touchdowns in his career, including one last season.
The Jets released wide receiver Jeremy Kerley, who only had one punt return for a touchdown in his career, on Wednesday. Kerley averaged 8.6 yards per return last season.
Sherels would have provided depth in the secondary, but most importantly would have added some speed to the special teams return game. After cutting both Antonio Cromartie and Kerley, the team will seek returners in the days ahead.
