Goodbye Mr. Gugs -- Gugs was a little irascible with the press, so no one in the media room is sad to see him go, but he did a good job with the Jets helping the group to rank out well in run blocking by the end of the season. While the 11 sack disaster against the Chargers was a black eye, it can't be all held against Gugs who can't be blamed for trying to protect a quarterback who had his bell rung and was still somehow playing. While Gugs was fine for the Jets players, he probably wasn't going to be very happy working on a staff without Sparano, the guy who was responsible for bringing him to New York in the first place.
Devlin in the Details -- I think that Mike Devlin could work out well for the Jets and their line. As a former tight ends coach and assistant line coach he's familiar with the players involved and has been able to work with guys like Callahan and others to make this team one of the better run-blocking groups in the league. He's got personal knowledge of the players and I think he could do well to add a familiar but fresh breath of life into the group.
The Return of Weeks -- Jeff Weeks was a very popular coach among the players and he's an old friend of Rex Ryan's. While Thurman will be his defensive coordinator, Weeks will be another loyal deputy on the defensive side of the ball to Rex Ryan.
