The NFL Network sent out a teaser quote from an interview with Jets CB Darrelle Revis that will air tonight regarding Revis's reaction to the news that he was potentially on the trade block and coming from the very top ... even before a formal announcement was made about the team's new GM.
"I was speechless; I tweeted it out I was speechless,” Revis told NFLN. “I was speechless because I didn't get a phone call. I know it's a business - just call me; don't have it lingering out there. I need answers and I'm not getting any. Just the fact that that was put out there instead of contacting your best player on the team. If that's how you want to do business, then that's fine."
Pardon our presumption, but I get the feeling that the way the Jets operate their business is not all "fine" with Revis. There's never really been much goodwill in terms of deals between the Jets and Revis and no one should expect that will change any time soon.
Since the quote comes somewhat out of context, it's hard to know for sure exactly what Revis means by it, but I read the quote and get the sense that it's still representative of current state. The "I need answers and I'm not getting any" leads me to believe nothing has really been done or addressed about the matter in the meantime.
We don't know how that story about the Jets interest in trading him got into the papers in the first place, but the fact that Revis feels he's not getting the answers he deserves from the team leads me down the "where there's smoke" road more than it makes me think it was unrepresentative of the team's actual stance.
