Sincere? Bitter former coach of the Jets? The world may never know, but for now, Rex Ryan is going on the record again, saying he prefers Giants rookie quarterback Daniel Jones over Jets QB Sam Darnold.
On ESPN's "Get Up" on Monday, Ryan was posed with that exact question. He was definitive.
"He is better. Daniel Jones is better," Ryan said.
This is not the first time Ryan has gone on the record declaring Jones the better quarterback in New York. This week, Ryan cited Darnold's "fundamentals" as the reason why he likes Jones better, calling them "horrible." In September, Ryan said something similar.
"The reason I'm saying it is because his fundamentals are much better," Ryan explained a few weeks back. "I love Sam Darnold, don't get me wrong. I still think he's going to be a tremendous player. But I think this guy right here, this guy's got competitive greatness in him and I think he's going to be a superstar."
Ryan leveled the playing a field a bit in his most recent remarks, though. Perhaps because of Darnold's three-game winning streak with the Jets.
"I think (Darnold) is a heck of a player, he's got to get better. And Daniel Jones, the same way," Ryan said.
