Richardson was a disruptive and productive force from Day 1 for the Jets, and he excelled at stuffing the run, while also proving he could regularly find his way into the backfield (15.5 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks, 33 quarterback pressures). Richardson, who got my vote for the league's Defensive Rookie of the Year, even turned into a useful Jumbo fullback late in the year and scored a pair of goal-line situation touchdowns. We wouldn't argue with Banks at all in this pick. Richardson had a helluva year for a rookie and we're glad that writers like him voted for Richardson as the NFL's Defensive Rookie of the Year. Richardson did a phenomenal job against the run in his rookie year, and we can't wait to see how his pass rush skills will increase with more time with the coaching staff.
We've said before it would be a nice feather in the cap of the Jets 8-8 season if Richardson wins the DROY and it would be a good indicator to the league that the Jets know what they are doing with their personnel as we move into the second year of a new front office.
