I have a longtime Jets fan friend who has become so disgusted by the direction of the franchise he coined the term agnorance — combining arrogance and ignorance — which fits perfectly at the moment.
Shame on Johnson and Ryan, the so-called champions of transparency and “nothing to hide,’’ for cowering in their offices on a day that begged for them to be visible and accountable. And if they were advised by someone to clam up, shame on them for not dismissing the bad advice.
“Organizational decision,’’ was the only reason given by a media relations official for the cancellation of Ryan’s press conference. It would have been better termed “disorganizational decision.’’
I get Canny's frustration, it reeks of a lack of accountability by the higher ups. It's hard to see what happened yesterday and not think about all the problems over the last few years.
Yesterday Michael Kay and Don LaGreca were all over Rex Ryan for not showing up for his radio spot. They talked themselves into a frenzy, going as far to question Ryan's defensive prowess. Ryan took Mangini's defense and turned it into a world-beater in 2009 by adding Lito Sheppard and Bart Scott. Easy now, Mike. More likely, Kay was mad because some car dealership is going to pull their advertising since Ryan didn't appear in his Bay Ridge Honda and Melrose Credit Union sponsored spot or some such.
Still, it's worth asking whether or not Ryan is now under a gag order until a new GM is sorted out. It could be that they don't want him saying anything until a new GM is found -- and possibly that new GM has any "input" in what the future of Rex Ryan is.
