New York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez will have season-ending shoulder surgery to repair a torn labrum later this month, a person with knowledge of Sanchez's situation told USA TODAY Sports.Sanchez isn't going to be with the team come the 2014 season, so now that he is injured and thinking about surgery/rehab, when that happens really isn't all that compelling a story. Yes, it was unfortunate that he was injured in a poorly advised moment from a coaching perspective, but the likelihood that Sanchez would have played in a way during the course of the 2013 season to revive his long-term prospects with the team seemed unlikely. Sanchez isn't taking up a roster spot, the Jets will try Matt Simms should they ever go to another player and Mark Sanchez can do what he's already been doing so far with the Jets this season: begin his NCAA coaching career a year early by working with the team as an extra QB coach.
"It seems rather certain that he will have the surgery," said the person, who requested anonymity because neither Sanchez nor the Jets have announced the decision. "He just isn't ready to make it official."
