The Jets quarterback situation took a turn into the darkest timeline tonight in the fourth quarter of the Jets annual preseason contest against the Giants.
After a four turnover night by the team's rookie quarterback Geno Smith, Mark Sanchez, was playing behind the team's
third string backup offensive line and took a big hit on a scramble out side the pocket from Giants DT Marvin Austin.
Sanchez writhed on the ground in pain and after getting up, clutched his ribs. Sanchez tried some passes on the sideline, but could be seen on the broadcast telling trainers that he was unable to continue. Sanchez's right shoulder was iced and he walked off the field to get imaging done on this shoulder.
We'll have to wait and see what the results on the x-rays are for Sanchez, but it could be bad.
As for Rex? There was really no good reason to put Mark Sanchez into the game at that point and he is going to come under some WITHERING scrutiny locally and nationally for that decision.
Sanchez has been winning the starting job by default, so everyting could now turn on a dime depending on what Sanchez's status is and whether or not he can quickly get healthy.
This position is what the entire offseason has centered around and nothing tonight changed for the better.
