Now Commenting On:

The Jets have announced tonight that wide receiver Santonio Holmes has been removed from the Active/Physically Unable to Perform list and placed on the Active roster.

Holmes has been rehabilitating his foot after suffering a Lisfranc injury last season. He's been doing more activities of late including straight-forward sprinting and was seen on the sideline catching passes from Geno Smith prior to the Jacksonville game. He has yet to do any route running or cutting.

When Holmes will return to action is still unclear but tonight's transaction is an encouraging sign and could indicate he won't miss much more than a few weeks to start the year, if any.

The Jets also announced Marcus Davis has been released from their injured reserve list after coming to an injury settlement.

A lot has been made about Santonio's ability to contribute to the team early on in the 2013 season. This is certainly a good sign, but we will still have to wait and watch to see when he's actually ready to step on the field. It seems unlikely that Tone would be playing in tomorrow night's matchup against the Giants, and there might be an outside chance that he would take reps in the fourth game … but more than anything we expect it would be in week one before he saw any action.

It's hard to say whether or not Santonio was milking his injury, but one way or another it's a good time for him to start participating more alongside the rest of the team.

As for Marcus Davis? If he doesn't catch on with an NFL club at some point this year, we wouldn't be surprised to see him latch on with an AFL or UFL team before getting a second shot next year with the Jets.
