Jets RB Le'Veon Bell spoke on Thursday at training camp about his long layoff, his thoughts on Sam Darnold and Adam Gase, and much more. Here are the takeaways...
On Sam Darnold
"Sam looks good. He's young, a lot of potential. I think the more and more he plays, each rep he plays, he gets better. You can really see the growth in him every single day. I'm excited to play with him."
On Adam Gase
"Coach Gase, he just loves football. You can tell he just likes going out there and taking (it to) the defense, making guys do what they don't want to do. He's a mastermind of offense and I'm excited to play with him."
On the long layoff after sitting out the 2018 season
"I've been itching for a year. ... practicing is really different from training. And then when I go play in a game, practicing is different from a game. ... I'm gonna do what the coaches want me to do. If they feel like it's important, I'm gonna go out there and do it.
Can he return to the dominant form of 2017
"I expect to be better. I don't want to just say I'm gonna be how I was two years ago. Each and every year I feel like I want to be a better player. I'm confident. ... I'm just eager to play. I'm just ready to go out there and win some football games."
Bell also added that he's up for 500 touches if it will help the Jets make it to the Super Bowl.
Is he rusty?
"If I'm rusty, I don't feel it. It just feels like I'm playing football. Maybe somebody else will say I'm rusty, but I feel perfectly fine. I feel if the ball is coming to me, I can catch it. ... the hole don't seem like it's moving too fast or closing too quickly."
