Bilal Powell should be the Jets' starting running back over Matt Forte, SNY's Willie Colon said during The Jet Stream podcast on Tuesday.
"Matt Forte looked like he was tired at times," Colon said. "His wheels and his feet just weren't working for him. ... he dropped a couple of passes, he looked kind of out of it."
"At that point, that's where you do want to see Todd Bowles say 'hey, maybe he just doesn't have it today. Let's get Bilal going. Let's get [Elijah] McGuire going. Because we need some guys who are going to break tackles.' ... That didn't happen. They stood with Forte, and that's why I think the run game was stagnant."
The 31-year-old Forte had six carries for 16 yards during the Jets' Week 1 loss to the Bills, while Powell, 28, carried the ball seven times for 22 yards.
"I don't understand why he's not the starter, period," Colon concluded about Powell. "I have nothing against Forte, personally, but he is not better than Bilal Powell for me. ...with the running backs, who's the best running back on your team? Bilal Powell. Let him start that game up. ... Bilal Powell should be your starting running back.
