After criticizing Geno Smith for not returning to the game after sustaining a knee injury in Sunday's win over the Ravens, former Jets quarterback Joe Namath has apoligized to Smith
@GenoSmith7 My bad Geno. In the dark ages we players had the say. I hope you heal and play as long as you choose! Joe- Joe Namath (@RealJoeNamath) October 25, 2016
Namath's original comments came Sunday night before it was known that Smith suffered a torn ACL and will miss the remainder of the season.
Previous Reports (Oct. 23)
Former New York Jets quarterback Joe Namath criticized Geno Smith for not returning to the game after sustaining a knee injury in Sunday's win over the Baltimore Ravens at MetLife Stadium.
Smith left the game in the second quarter with a right knee injury when Baltimore's Matthew Judon sacked him. Ryan Fitzpatrick, whom head coach Todd Bowles benched in favor of Smith earlier this week, entered.
Smith, who will undergo an MRI later this week to determine the severity of his injury, did not return to the game and was seen on the sidelines in street clothes, which Namath pointed out on Twitter.
If you've got a right knee injury keeping you out of the game why are you standing on the sideline the entire 2nd half? How bad can it be?- Joe Namath (@RealJoeNamath) October 23, 2016
Smith responded on Twitter later Sunday night.
Somebody tell Joe that the doctors have the final say on whether you can or cannot get back into the game...... and also that I love him!- Geno (@GenoSmith7) October 23, 2016
Before he left the game, Smith threw for 95 yards and one touchdown on 4-for-8 passing. Fitzpatrick went 9 for 14 with 120 passing yards and one touchdown.
