Additionally, when asked about whether the defense could improve over the course of the season, Ryan stated that the Jets are anxious for 2012 first rounder Quinton Coples to return to the field. "We have to get Coples back. I think that’s going to really help us. "
I had hoped that Ryan would discount the injury to Wilkerson on Friday, but the fact that he didn't has me a little bit worried.
Wilkerson is so crucial to the defensive line that losing him and Coples on the defensive front at the same time could go badly for the Jets. We'll have to wait and see what Wilkerson's status is come next week, but if Coples can return to the game against the Bills, the Jets might breathe a little easier and give Wilkerson a week off, if it means he'll be more healthy over the course of the next few games.
While the team still has Sheldon Richardson, Damon Harrison, Leger Douzable and Kenrick Ellis, keep an eye on if the Jets make any additions to the roster around the defensive line between now and Thursday.
